FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
What is Paintless Dent Removal (PDR)?
PDR is the use of uniquely designed tools to get in behind the dent and massage/flex the metal back to its original shape. This process is faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly than covering it up with BONDO and paint. Each dent, no matter how small, must be worked on individually with one or more PDR tools. Fortunately, metal has a memory and will respond to gentle, even pressure to ease the metal back into its original shape. The paint decompresses along with the metal so that no paint damage occurs, effectively protecting the value of your vehicle.
Is there a limit to what kinds of dents can be fixed?
Most hail damage dents from the size of a dime up to the size of a half dollar and sometimes larger can be repaired. However, the limiting factor is the ratio of the depth of the dent to its diameter. A large shallow dent is much easier to repair than a small deep dent. Each vehicle must be inspected in order to assess its repair-ability.
How long does PDR typically take?
Most dents can be repaired in 1 - 3 hours. Hail damage (depending on severity) can take 1-3 days.
Will PDR decrease the value of my vehicle?
No. In fact, the whole point of using PDR is because the repairs can be made without disturbing your vehicle's paint finish. This means that your car will NOT require painting. You won't have to worry about matching any cover-up paint with your cars original factory paint job.
Will the PDR process affect the manufacturer paint warranty on my car?
No. One of the major advantages of the PDR process is that it does not affect the warranty on the car’s paint or finish.
How is PDR considered environmentally friendly?
The PDR process is paintless. What does “paintless” mean for the environment? The process does not require the use of noxious paint fumes, or volatile organic compounds (VOC's), that can harm the ozone layer. Additionally, the threat of paint thinners that could accidentally be washed into the public drainage system and potentially get into the local drinking water supply is eliminated.
Can I remove hail damage from my car myself?
You might find some "DIY" solutions online or other tips that require a plunger, hair dryer or dry ice for removing the dents from your car. This might seem like a great “quick fix” solution but can potentially (and likely will) do more damage to your car and you could end up spending MORE money to get the dents repaired correctly.
Paintless Dent Removal is any Insurance Companies preferred method for repairing hail damage and other body dents. Since the PDR process removes the dents and eliminates the need for repainting, the manufacturer’s paint warranty will not be voided.
